EJC 2008 in Karlsruhe

After three years of preparation, Karlsruhe welcomed the jugglers of the world on 2nd of august 2008 for nine days packed with juggling, sharing and fun - also known as the "31. European Juggling Convention". Lots of jugglers followed the call, making this the biggest juggling festival ever!

Here's a selection of all the pictures we've taken at EJC 2008 - shows, games and parade as well as site and daily EJC life. If that's not enough, please have a look at our link section below for even more pictures!

While more and more jugglers arrive in Karlsruhe, some thousands leave the site in the afternoon - they form a big colorful parade throughout the city, where all trams have been stopped to make way for the jugglers. After the parade, jugglers and people from Karlsruhe alike gather in front of the castle to watch the big opening show.

On Monday, convention life starts to pick up. Besides lots of workshops and practicing in the big gym, there are all different kind of shows from the afternoon on: apart from the daily open and special stages, an open air show is played in front of the hill and the eurovision juggling contest takes place at night.

Beautiful weather, thousands of jugglers and lots of fun everywhere - what more could one want? Maybe get creative with the melting paint project, sit in the sun listening to a band or spend the night watching fire-artists. There's something to be discovered behind every corner!

With the whole day packed with activities, only few jugglers notice that half of the EJC is already over. But hey, there are four more days coming up! At night, the swimming pool "Europabad" stays open just for the jugglers - imagine a huge crowd of jugglers enjoying themselves with lots of water, and you might come close to what this evening is like...

On Thursday, more and more jugglers feel the effect of having a good time for several days and nights: the couches that are distributed all over the site present a welcome possibility to sleep in late. Not to late, hopefully, as in the evening the first gala show is being played in town!

Most jugglers got a ticket for one of the two gala show performances on Friday, so using the bus shuttle to get there, watching the show and coming home excited is the major event of their day. Which doesn't mean that there's nothing else happening - "Extra Art" on the special stage, an additional evening in the swimming pool, ...

Saturday, last full day of the convention. "Why can't we just stay for another week?" is one of the most heard comments, but as the european juggling games unfold and people anticipate the big fire show in the evening, there's just too much going one for anyone to get the blues. Instead, there's a last roaring party in the bar tent which doesn't end until sun comes up again!

And then it's all over again... after more than a week of juggling, having fun and meeting old friends as well as new ones, it's time for departure. That is, after having managed to pack all of ones belongings into the rucksack or car and having spent as much time as possible enjoying the last bits of the convention!
